Methods of Inquiry (MOI)
"In this course, students learn analytical thinking strategies routinely used by professional scholars. Each student applies strategies from the materials presented in lectures and reading assignments to his or her current course work. Prerequisite: concurrent enrollment in two lecture courses.(P/NP only.)"
This is all the UCSD catalog has to say about this course, but those who have experienced MOI for themselves know that the catalog description falls far short of actually encompassing the MOI course. Those few short lines cannot begin to address all of the benefits of active participation in MOI.
The MOI course is unlike any other course offered at UCSD, but is perhaps one of the most meaningful. As we start our second decade of MOI at UCSD, we look forward to providing more of the same high quality, life enhancing strategies to students looking for more than just a grade on a scrap of paper.
MOI has a unique combination of specific strategies and a general outlook on education and life which is especially well suited to help students adapt to any of the myriad challenges they can expect to face during their academic career, and beyond. Indeed, one of the most powerful aspects of MOI is its ability to be used throughout life - which makes it a valuable tool for any person in the pursuit of excellence!
At a very minimum, the proven benefits of participating in the MOI course include:
- better information processing and time management
- the ability to 'tune in' to the the important points of a subject
- the ability to predict exam questions
Please take a moment to investigate the course. Read what other UCSD students have to say about this life enhancing experience. See how the benefits of MOI last long after college courses are over. We're confident that you too will want to join a growing number of students that have benefited from this simple yet effective approach to education.
We look forward to meeting you.
