A Thurgood Mrashall College Commencement Tradition
Thurgood Marshall College has a unique tradition at commencement. Two special guests will be allowed to sit with the graduate in the graduate seating area and cross the stage with the graduate. This symbolizes the closeness that graduates feel with these individuals. It also recognizes the emotional, educational and/or financial support they have contributed toward the graduate's success.
- Graduates and their two special guests must report with their tickets by 11:30a.m. to Ridge Walk outside the RIMAC main entrance for check-in.
- Graduates and guests will be seated prior to the ceremony. Seating will be first-come, first-served.
- There will be no graduate processional or recessional.
- The ceremony is scheduled to take approximately two and a half hours - from 1:00 to 3:00p.m. We suggest making your post-commencement plans after 5:00p.m.
All graduates will cross the stage and have their names read by the Dean of Academic Advising Anne Porter or the Acting Dean of Student Affairs Victoria Kerba-Miller and will be congratulated by Provost Allan Havis and Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. Special honorees will be presented the Thurgood Marshall College Award Medal of Honor.
