UC San Diego Spelman College/Morehouse College Exchange Program
PURPOSE OF THE EXCHANGE PROGRAM
The UCSD/Morehouse/Spelman Student Exchange Program was officially launched in the fall quarter of 1989. This formal exchange program was developed by Thurgood Marshall College and is open to all UCSD undergraduates. Morehouse and Spelman Colleges are located in Atlanta, Georgia. The purpose of the program is to provide a unique opportunity for students to live and study at important institutions of higher learning that are significantly different from their own social and educational environment.
SPELMAN COLLEGE - established in 1881, is an outstanding historically black college for women. Spelman strives for academic excellence in liberal education.
The educational programs is designed to give students a comprehensive liberal arts background through study in the fine art, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Students are encouraged to think critically, logically, and creatively; and to improve their use of communicative and quantitative skills. The college seeks to develop the total person.
MOREHOUSE COLLEGE - is an independent four-year undergraduate liberal arts college for men located in Atlanta, Georgia.
It was established in 1867. Currently, Morehouse College enrolls over 2,000 students. The liberal arts curriculum is based on the principle "that to be educated, men must learn about themselves and their world in all of its varied aspects." Morehouse stresses values and self-awareness over isolated skills and knowledge.

ELIGIBILITY & SELECTION CRITERIA
- Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units with a 2.7 or higher grade point average by the end of Spring quarter.
- Appropriate academic preparation in the major field of study or field of interest.
- A one-page statement of purpose outline the reasons for participating inthe exchange and a completed application.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty, which specifically address the applicant's appropriateness for such an exchange program.
- Applicants selected for final consideration will be required to participate in a panel interview.
- Applications are also available at the Thurgood Marshall College Academic Advising office.
