TMC Honors ProgramOnce in the program, students remain in good honors standing as long as the cumulative GPA remains at 3.5 or better. All eligible students are automatically notified by letter and monitored quarterly.
Regents’ Scholarships
These are awarded for the University and the Chancellor of the San Diego campus with consideration given to those with academic excellence. A scholar may receive an honorarium or stipend for each year of appointment. Privileges, such as guaranteed on-campus housing and preferred enrollment, are also offered to Regents’ Scholars.
President’s Undergraduate Fellowship
This program is designed to assist unusually talented undergraduates to carry out special studies and projects under faculty supervision. Projects may include original research or other creative activities.
U.S. Grants
U.S. Grants is a student-run organization which can provide financial support and organizational structure for individual research projects. In addition, it produces the UC San Diego Journal of Undergraduate Research, which provides a forum for publication of undergraduate research.
There are many ways Thurgood Marshall College students receive recognition for academic excellence. Students who complete the Honors Seminar earn the notation “Thurgood Marshall College Honors Seminar” on their transcript for each quarter of participation.

Membership in Phi Beta Kappa, the national honors society founded at the College of William and Mary in 1776, is available to qualified UC San Diego graduates. Membership is conferred for high scholastic standing and is determined by vote of the chapter according to a student’s scholarship record.
The University confers three levels of honors at graduation: Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude. The determination of the various honors levels is based on a percentage of the graduating class. No more than 14 percent of the graduating class will receive these honors.
Each year at graduation, Thurgood Marshall College presents the Provost’s Award to a graduate chosen in recognition of superior academic achievement and breadth of scholarship. A Thurgood Marshall College committee selects the awardee based upon units completed at UC San Diego, the grade point average, and the breadth of scholarship.
One of the primary goals of TMCHP is to meet the ever-changing needs of Thurgood Marshall College students. We are pleased and excited by the services we are already able to offer, and the future holds great promise.
