TMC Marshall Mentor Program

Thurgood Marshall College offers new transfer students the opportunity to connect with members of the UC San Diego faculty through participation in our Marshall Mentor Program. We value the importance of student interaction with faculty and encourage you to submit an application for the Marshall Mentor Program and enhance your college experience as scholars and citizens.

What is a TMC Faculty Mentor?

A TMC faculty mentor is a professor interested in cultivating vital, academic connections with new TMC transfer students. Participating faculty— closely aligned with the student's area of study— will connect with a maximum of 3 transfer students as a guide and a resource throughout the current academic year.

What is a Mentee?

Mentees are newly enrolled transfer students accepted into this program. Mentees must be interested in establishing and maintaining meaningful connections with UC San Diego faculty members.

How does the Faculty & Transfer Mentorship program work?

  • Students apply to participate in this selective program. Due to the selected group of faculty mentors and the required student commitment of this program, not every student applicant will be selected.
  • Students are matched with TMC faculty based on major, academic interests and other identified criteria. Criteria are used as best as possible to determine matches.
  • Faculty mentors will work with a maximum of three newly enrolled TMC transfer students.
  • Mentors and mentees will meet/interact with one another approximately three times per quarter.
  • The Marshall College Student Affairs Office will notify you in mid-October via email if you were selected and give you options for orientation dates.
  • You will also be given your mentor assignments, and encouraged to establish contact with your faculty mentor. At your initial meeting with your faculty mentor, you may also meet one or two additional transfer students assigned to your mentor.
