The UCSD - Spelman/Morehouse Student Exchange Program was officially launched in the fall quarter of 1989. This formal exchange program was developed by Thurgood Marshall College and is open to all UCSD undergraduates. Morehouse and Spelman Colleges are located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Purpose of the Exchange Program

The purpose of the program is to provide a unique opportunity for students to live and study at important institutions of higher learning that are significantly different from the social and educational environment typical of California state colleges and universities. Similarly, the exchange students coming to UCSD from Morehouse and Spelman will have an opportunity to experience an exciting and very different educational environment.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the Spelman/Morehouse exchange, students must have a completed application and the following:

  • Completed 60 semester or 90 quarter units, with a 2.7 or higher grade point average, by the end of Spring quarter.
  • A one-page statement of purpose outlining the reasons for participating in the exchange and a completed application.
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty, which specifically address the applicant's appropriateness for such an exchange program.
  • Appropriate academic preparation in the major field of study or field of interest.

The application deadline for the Spelman/Morehouse Exchange Program is Friday, February 6, 2015.

Spelman College
