About
Thurgood Marshall College
Thurgood Marshall College was conceived by faculty and
students, and founded in 1970 as Third College. From its inception, Third
College enriched the lives of undergraduates with its intellectual and
philosophical commitment to the development of both the scholar and citizen.
In July of 1993, the University of California Regents
approved the new name of Thurgood Marshall College in honor of the famous
attorney and Supreme Court Jurist. Justice Thurgood Marshall was widely
known and recognized for his historic contributions to American life, and
his dedication to breaking down barriers to education.
TMC is an integral
part of the cluster college system on the UCSD Campus which affords
students the opportunity and advantages of attending a small liberal
arts college within the setting of a renowned research university. Within
its short history, UCSD has risen to national prominence. The distinguished
faculty and excellent student body have contributed to that success.
