Services offered through the Residential Life Office
The Residential Life Office Services:
- Located in the Oceanview Building on the Thurgood Marshall College
- Talk with a Resident Dean or Assistant Resident Dean
- Assists with academic, personal, and housing needs
- Check out a temporary key
- Check in and out
- Pick up packages
- Assist with any adjustment to college life
Resident Advisors (RAs) (8 in the Residence Halls & 11 in the apartments)
- Serve as information resources
- Assist you academically and personally
- Provide out of class community service, cultural, and educational activities
- Assist you in creating a responsible, fun community
- Visit your apartment/suite on a weekly basis
- Keep you informed of the duty schedule
- RA on duty may be reached at 534-4340
- RA is available 5 PM to 8 AM weekdays, 24 hours weekends and holidays
Interns
- TheTMC Television Intern coordinates the station's operations (TMTV)
- The Community Outreach Intern is the liaison to Marshall residents at Revelle
- The Office Interns provide front desk assistance in the Residential Life Office
Cable Stations
- Channel 20 is the student run Thurgood Marshall Television station
- Channel 19 is a rotation of each of the college television stations
- All other channels are facilitated through Triton Cable

Apartment cleaning includes the living room, bathroom, patio, and kitchen areas (assuming no dishes are in the way). Residence hall daily cleaning includes everything except bedrooms. Residents are responsible for emptying all trash into a nearby dumpster. In the residence halls there is a trash room next to every elevator. In the apartments there are dumpster located near every residential area. If extra cleaning is needed each apartment or suite member will be fined. You are responsible for maintaining a clean room. Vacuum cleaners are available on each residence hall floor and in each apartment. The custodial staff will empty the vacuum cleaner bags as needed
Please be respectful of the UCSD custodial staff. They can only clean as best as you will allow. If your area is cluttered, they cannot do their job. If you leave trash outside your door it will sit there till you properly dispose of it. Do what you can to keep our community clean and bug/rodent free.
- Located in Fireside Laundry room, and in the lower floors of J, P, Q, & U
- One load of wash is $1.00 and dryers are $.75 for 45 minutes
- Change is at TMAC, the Bookstore, Central Cashier, the Price Center, etc.
- Triton Cash is accepted in the laundry rooms
- Report equipment malfunctions directly to the Office of Residential Life
- It is advised to not leave your laundry unattended
Residence Hall residents receive a key to their individual bedroom and a key that opens all breezeway doors and their suite. Apartment residents receive a key to their individual bedroom and a key to their apartment front door.
No one may check out a key to a room other than his or her own. Never give your key to someone else. For your convenience and security, always carry your keys with you. Always lock your door.
Between 9 AM and 5 PM work days
- There is a $1 fee for all lockouts.
- Check out a courtesy key from the Office of Res. Life.
- Return key within 15 minutes Res Halls; 30 min apartments
- You will be assessed a $5 administrative charge per 15 minutes for unreturned keys
Between 5 PM and midnight and non-work days
- If you are locked out contact the RA on Duty to let you in at 858-534-4340
- Lockouts when the office is closed also cost $1; however, the fee is due to the Office of Residential Life within 5 business days
Between midnight and 8 AM
- If you are locked out contact the Police to let you in at 858-534-4357(HELP)
- Lockouts when the office is closed also cost $1; however, the fee is due to the Office of Residential Life within 5 business days
Lost key
- If a key is lost or misplaced, the lock will be changed and the key(s) will be replaced. The resident will need to sign an acknowledgement that they are aware of the lock change and the fee.
- The cost of a lock change set is $100
- There is a $6 replacement fee for a lost or misplaced suite key or apartment bedroom key
- These facilities are for residential use only (OVL may be reserved by others)
- If you go to the lounge to study and others are there not studying you can have them leave or call the RA on duty to assist. Residents studying have priority.
Oceanview Lounge (OVL):
- Located on the 4th floor of the Ocean View Building #304
- Can be divided into two rooms, one side has a TV/VCR and the other a piano
- Available for all residents' use for free 24 hours (see piano for specific piano hours)
- If upon arrival the room is locked, call 858-534-4340 for admittance
- Please see schedule outside of room before use to insure it is not reserved
- Available for functions on a reservation basis only through the Office of Residential Life.
Area Lounges:

Mail Delivery and Packages
- U.S. mail is delivered Monday through Saturday
- Mailboxes are for personal mail only
- Business mail will not be delivered
- U.S. mail packages that are too large for mailboxes are delivered to the TMC Mailroom located on the north side of Fireside Lounge. Mail services will put a notice in your mailbox to let you know if you have a package.
- Packages sent through UPS, Federal Express, or other private carriers, are accepted in the TMC Residential Life Office on a case by case basis, and acceptance by our office is not guaranteed. You will receive an email notice in your UCSD email to pick up your package.
Use your mailing address for all deliveries. Due to the limitations of the Residential Life Office's staff and physical space, the Residential Life Office is not able to accept large volumes of packages for overnight or same-day delivery. This is especially true with the high volume of general mail received during the first three weeks of each quarter. Accordingly, the Residential Life Office reserves the right to refuse to accept packages if more than 5 packages are received in the same day from a single vendor or if more than 10 packages are received in the same day from a single common carrier. Refused packages may be delivered to the UCSD mail room.
Mailing Offices

this Post Office does not take credit cards or international packages - Price Center: UPS and Fed Ex deliveries
- La Jolla Village Center contains a full service U.S. Post Office
- Near UTC, in the Coste Verde Plaza, is a U.S. Post Office
All maintenance repairs should be called in to the 24-hour Customer Service Center: 534-2600.
Reasons to call include:
- If something wears out
- Damage to any part of the facility occurs
- You need something replaced
- There is any facility emergency.
All requests will be handled on a priority basis. If your request is not handled in a reasonable amount of time call the Customer Service Center again.
All maintenance workers wear uniforms and university identification tags. Do not let people without this identification into your room, suite, or apartment.
If you have a problem with ants, cockroaches, fleas, or mice in your living area, print this form, have all of your apartment or suite mates read and sign it, and bring it to the Office of Residence Life.

Located on the 5th floor of the Oceanview building at the Marshall Residence Halls, OVT features:

OVT dishes are permitted out; however all dishes and silverware are to be returned to OVT.

The Housing and Dining Services, ACT/Triton Cable Services and ACS/Network Operations ResNet are working together to provide data communications to your residence hall or on-campus apartment. This service is brought to your room by cable modem or by 10Mb Ethernet.

Please see multiple details found on the Housing web site in early April of every year. Before selecting a location it is recommended that you view the apartments to make a variety of preferences.
Residential Security Officers (RSOs) patrol the residence complexes each night and are in contact with the university Police Department. The police department can also dispatch an officer to respond to any problems that might arise at 534-HELP (4357).
It is advisable to find a companion when walking across campus at night. The Community Service Office (CSOs) provides a security escort service from 5: PM to 1: AM every day. You may contact a CSO for an escort by calling 534-WALK (9255). The CSOs are radio dispatched through the university Police Department and are readily identifiable by the police issued apparel or windbreakers they wear.
>In each apartment there is limited storage space for trunks and suitcases. Unfortunately there is NO on-campus storage available for resident students living in the residence halls. There are also many local storage companies that give discounts to students. Refer to the local yellow pages.
Each of the residence halls/apartments is wired for private telephone service. Any student requesting telephone service must contact Pacific Bell directly at 1-877-7CAMPUS (1-877-722-6787) for assistance. If after your connected you experience telephone difficulties, check to see if it is your telephone. Then check the possibility of the problem in the telephone lines (wires). Finally, contact Pacific Bell.
Use the mailbox number assigned to you (3xxx, 9450 Gilman Dr., La Jolla, CA 92092-0100) as your mailing/billing address and the following address for the actual physical location:
10050 N. Torrey Pines Rd., La Jolla, CA 92093 (residence halls only)
and 9650 Hopkins Dr., La Jolla, CA 92093 (apartments only).
It is your responsibility to make arrangements with your roommates regarding the sharing of telephones. The person who arranges for the telephone service with Pacific Bell will be financially liable for any changes to that telephone line. The Office of Residential Life will not settle disputes concerning phone-billing charges.
Cellular phones are also an option as service is available in all areas of campus except the Price Center.
When you move in you will have boxes, packaging materials, and trash to dispose.
- Completely empty and flatten your boxes
- Areas are available outside all housing units to collect the cardboard
- Newspaper and other paper types of packing materials go into recycling bins.

Trash
Residents are responsible for emptying all trash from their room or apartment. Trash receptacles are strategically located throughout the housing complexes. Trash pick-up from suites, apartments, and patios by custodial staff is subject to a minimum $25.00 fine. Each room has a small, blue recycling bin. If at move at there is no recycling bin in each resident's room a $10 per bin fee is assessed to the room. Use your bin to bring recyclables to the main collection areas:
- From the Residence Hall take it to P304
- From the Upper Apartments take it to the cul de sac
- From the Lower Apartments take it to P308.
ALL batteries are classified as universal hazardous waste. DO NOT disppose of them in trash. Deliver these to the Office of Residential Life:
- Nickel-cadmium,
- Ni-Cd Silver button
- Mercury
- Small sealed lead acid

Pb Alkaline, Carbon-zinc
- Nickel metal hydride; Ni-MH
- Lithium Ion batteries.
Batteries may also be placed in collection containers located at the UCSD Bookstore in the Price Center and at Earl's Place above the Canyon Vista cafeteria.
