Marshall College Faculty Involvement
Thurgood Marshall College has over 160 affiliated campus faculty from every discipline of study as part of our college identity. Many of these professors serve as faculty mentors for TMC Mentor Program for Transfer Students. They also teach in our Dimension of Culture core writing program, as well as developing topics and teaching in our Honors Seminars. Marshall Faculty serve on our college’s Executive Committee, Curriculum Committee and the Preuss Charter School Board of Advisors. In additional, Marshall Faculty lead key academic programs based at TMC such as our Public Service Minor and African-American Studies Minor.

Faculty are warmly invited to attend any of the campus-wide events that we sponsor throughout the academic year. We are proud to feature UC San Diego faculty as moderators at our open forum public events. These include our annual Marshall Week festivities in November, Past guests included legendary film producer Samuel Goldwyn Jr., Nobel Laureate and activist Wole Soyinka, award winning author and NPR journalist Juan Williams, Nobel Laureate Poet Derek Walcott, noted actor and comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence, TV and film star David Alan Grier.
Faculty are urged to match the challenge posed by our students in making a service commitment to the college. Each quarter we need volunteers to conduct the Thurgood Marshall College Honors Seminar on topics related to college themes, a minimal commitment equivalent to running a Freshman Seminar.
In keeping with its tradition of community service and social activism, Marshall College invites you to participate and become involved in the many activities, events, and projects with a social emphasis that it sponsors. Any member of the campus community can volunteer in our outreach efforts in the local public schools, most notably the Preuss School here on campus, and the Gompers Preparatory Academy charter school in Southeast San Diego. Gompers in particular needs lots of academic support in the form of tutors and consultants during this, its fledgling year as a charter school with a college prep curriculum.
There are more exciting things going on at Marshall than you might expect, and look forward to your participation and involvement in them.
