Orientation Leader Program
The Orientation Leader Program employs the talents of a select group of continuing students to provide new Thurgood Marshall College students and their families with a satisfying and worthwhile experience during the New Student Orientation program.
Through the New Student Orientation Program, Orientation Leaders have the opportunity to develop personal and professional skills while working with the Thurgood Marshall College staff. Additionally, the Orientation Leaders will meet and work with new freshmen and transfer students, develop leadership skills, make valuable contributions to Thurgood Marshall College, and have fun.
We encourage all interested students to attend one of the following Information Sessions:
Tuesday, January 17th @ 3:30 PM
- Fireside Lounge, Thurgood Marshall College
Thursday, January 19th @ 11:00 AM
- TMC Administration Building, Room 126
The Orientation Leaders assist the Thurgood Marshall College staff in welcoming new students and their families. This may include: facilitation of the orientation schedule, leading small groups on activities, providing important college or campus information, setting up meeting areas, running errands, staffing check-in tables and leading a campus and/or residential tour.
After review of applications, the Marshall College Leadership team will invite applicants, via their UCSD e-mail account, to interview for the Orientation Leader position. Interviews will last approximately 30 minutes.
All students selected for the 2017 Orientation team are required to attend all training dates and times, as well as participate in all assigned aspects of the program. Orientation Leader training will take place in two phases: Spring Quarter and September.
Spring Quarter training will take place on Thursdays, Week 1-10, from 9:30 AM - 10:50 AM.
September Training will take place Friday, September 15th - Monday, September 18th. All students participating in September training must be available for training on Saturday, September 16th and Sunday, September 17th.
New Student Orientation will take place between September 19th and September 25th. Selected orientation leaders will need to be available to work during these dates.
Additionally, Orientation Leaders are asked to volunteer time (when possible) during Welcome Week (September 26-28th).
