Hi everyone,

Congratulations to all of our Transfer students during National Transfer week! There are many events you can get involved in both across UC San Diego and in Marshall College. You can also join me to talk about Transfer resources with Julia Ng from the Triton Transfer Hub during TMC Community Hours on Instagram Live next Thursday at 1:00pm PST.

I hope everyone’s quarter is going well so far. I am teaching my first ever remote class, and I’m somehow managing to get through it! I’m really grateful for my students who seem to have this canvas thing down far better than me right now. As always, please let me, or Dean Amber Vlasnik or Dean Clare Harrington, or our teams, know if we can support you in any way.

I also wanted to shout out to all of our students who live on campus. As you probably know, repeated covid testing, especially of people without symptoms, is crucial for us all being able to be back on campus in person, hopefully sometime soon! The target is for 90% of the students to be on time for their biweekly tests. I learned this week that Marshall is doing the best of all areas on campus, with 80% of our students caught up on their testing. Thank you so much for that; it is because of your selfless actions that we will hopefully all be on campus again soon. I’m proud of you!

Best,

Leslie Carver

Marshall College Public Health Initiative
October 19th | 6 - 7 pm (PST)
Zoom

Now more than ever, disparities in access to health services are apparent in the US and in Southern California. The goal of Marshall College’s 50th Anniversary Heath Initiative is to provide students interested in medicine, public health, or other health related careers the opportunity to make a real difference by working on projects of their own design in the community to address disparities. In a year long series of events, students will learn about health disparities and community organizations that address them, and will create and execute a project designed to improve community public health access, guided by experts in public service fields. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about serving their community and making a difference, to celebrate the spirit of community engagement that defines Marshall College. Join us this Monday to learn more about the initiative and how to get involved!
