Hi, everyone,
Can you believe it’s Week 9? ? This is going to be a pretty short message. It’s been a pretty long quarter year for me, and I’m sure it’s been an even longer one for all of you. The good news is that there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. If you’ve been on campus, I’m sure you’ve heard about or seen the vaccine center the campus has set up at RIMAC. They are cranking through vaccinations of both members of the community who are with UCSD Health, and frontline workers on campus. So hopefully your Res Life staff, custodians, food service workers, and facilities workers will be vaccinated soon, and the rest of us hopefully soon after that. We are really fortunate to be at a world class research university where we have some of the top minds in infectious disease, epidemiology, and public health working on getting us all back where we need to be. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m really impressed every time I hear them talk about the work they are doing in modeling the future path of the pandemic, sequencing new variants of the virus, setting up testing and vaccination resources on campus and all over San Diego, and creating systems to keep us all safe. If you have the opportunity to run into any of them, please remember to thank them for the work they do. Special shout out to any Marshall students who are Triton Health Ambassadors. Your work is an incredibly important part of this effort.
If you’re on campus now, we’re trying to encourage everyone to stay here over Spring Break in order to reduce the spread of the virus - but campus is working on a lot of opportunities for students to have fun, safe outdoor activities (with a small number of people of course) over break. It sounds like it’ll be great, and there are all kinds of activities no matter what your interests are, so everyone should definitely check that out. Good luck to everyone on your finals, and please, try to relax over spring break.
Best,
Provost Carver |
