Leadership Development

Orientation Leaders, Orientation Assistants, Senior Orientation Leaders, and the Orientation Intern all work to assist the Student Affairs Staff with Marshall College's New Student Orientation Program. During this program, the Orientation Team welcomes new students, addresses inquiries, facilitates group discussions, and serves as campus tour guides. The Orientation Team is pivotal in showcasing the College and introducing students to life at Marshall. All positions are paid but vary in terms of time commitment. Applications are released throughout the Fall and Winter Quarters.

Community Connection and Retention Facilitators have the unique opportunity to collaborate with the Marshall College Orientation program in planning the social and community-building aspects of Orientation, also known as Welcome Week. These Summer Interns assist in developing programming and events aimed at welcoming new and continuing students to UC San Diego and Marshall College. Selected students will have the chance to plan this long-standing Marshall College tradition over the Summer, as well as help oversee the events and programs themselves during Welcome Week. Appointments are expected to conclude once the academic year begins. All positions are paid, with applications released in the Winter Quarter.

The Student Affairs Dean’s Ambassadors Program develops equity-oriented leaders who collaborate to foster community at Marshall College through a diverse array of programs and events. Students in this program have the unique opportunity to build their program-planning and event-planning skills, provide administrative support to Marshall College Student Affairs, and grow together as a cohort of student leaders to make positive change at Marshall College and beyond!

By the end of their tenure, these students will be able to articulate an understanding of Scholar and Citizen; develop, plan, implement, and evaluate programs/projects/events with minimal supervision; collaborate effectively and respectfully with other team members and campus partners; and produce programs/projects/events that advance the College’s values of equity and diversity.

All positions are paid, with applications released at the end of the Winter Quarter.

The Marshall College Design Team consists of three Graphic Design Interns and one Marketing Intern. Together, they assist the College in various graphic, digital, and promotional efforts, with each role contributing to the Design Team and the College in a unique way.

Resident Assistants (RAs) develop residential communities within the Residence Halls and Apartments of Marshall College, helping create a living-learning community that is respectful, fun, safe, and conducive to out-of-classroom learning. Throughout their time as RAs, students will develop leadership, counseling, and confrontation management skills. RAs are compensated with Room and Board in the Marshall Residence Halls or Apartments.

Office Assistants (OAs) are the first point of contact for students' Residential Life needs when they arrive at the office. This position is an excellent way for students to get started in student leadership and meet a lot of great people in their community. In their cohort, Fellows will utilize experiential learning and restorative practices to explore various social justice and equity frameworks on topics that range from social identities and lived experiences to the cycle of liberation, cultural capital mapping, and Intersectionality. They will also be responsible for implementing an equity-based project for the Marshall (and UC San Diego!) community at the end of their two-quarter experience. Applications open in the Spring Quarter, and the program runs from the Fall to the following Spring of the academic year.
