Move-In & Check-In

Coming to Thurgood Marshall College Residential Life *

From the North, from the South, from an airport shuttle

If you are using a GPS, Google Maps, or other directional service, it is recommended that you use 9500 Muir College Drive, La Jolla, CA as your destination to get you to the proper ENTRANCE. (UCSD roads are otherwise not available on many web mapping services.)

* These directions are for you when you move in during assigned move in times between for Freshmen on Wednesday Sept 14 and Continuing students on Satruday Sept 16. If you are arriving at any other time, please follow the directions Marshall Residential Life Office on the street level. You will need to purchase a visitors parking permit on to park anywhere at UC San Diego on the weekdays.

Directions if driving from areas North of La Jolla


  • Take I-5 heading South
  • Pass the Carmel Valley and the 805 exits continuing on 5 South to the Genesee Ave exit. Go right on Genesee, westbound.
  • Go up the hill on Genesee and turn southbound at the first left which is North Torrey Pines.
  • You will only be able to enter campus for Marshall Move-In via Muir College Drive. Turn left at the light at Muir College Drive next to the Extension Studies.
  • Follow signage and parking staff who will guide you on where to go next based on your house/room assignment.  

You will be directed as follows:

  • On Wednesday, Sept 14 all Freshmen moving into APARTMENTS (houses: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, M) will be directed to proceed to parking lot P302 to check in and recieve your keys.
  • On Wednesday, Sept 14 all Freshmen moving into RESIDENCE HALLS (houses: N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V) will be directed to proceed to parking lot P304 to check in 
  • Continuing students, please proceed to check in at Residential Life on Saturday, Sept 17. You will only be able to enter campus for move in via Muir College Drive.
  • DO NOT ATTEMPT to go directly to your building until you have recieved your keys AND have been directed to an a temporary unloading zone. 
  • When you arrive to the Check in Tents, be ready to present your Qwik Pass & any photo ID. You will receive your key, ID/key card and directions on where you may unload, and where to park after unloading. 

Driving from areas South of La Jolla

  • Take I-5 heading North
  • Pass the Gilman Dr. and Nobel Dr. exits continuing to the La Jolla Village Dr. Turn left, westbound.
  • Go past the gas station, up the hill, and follow the road as it veres slightly to the left and then turns right, becoming North Torrey Pines.
  • Pass the large field, and turn right at Muir College Drive next to Extension Studies.
  • You will only be able to enter campus for Marshall Move In via Muir College Drive. Turn left at the light at Muir College Drive next to the Extension Studies.
  • Follow signage and parking staff who will guide you on where to go next based on your house/room assignment.

If coming by an airport shuttle

  • Ask for the UCSD Marshall Residential Life drop off.
  • When the shuttle gets to campus it will drop you off on the UCSD campus loop under the Ocean View Bridge near parking lot, #P304.
  • Walk to the north side of parking lot P304 and look for the Marshall Move-In station (blue canopies) 
  • Present your Qwik Pass & any photo ID. You will not be able to proceed to your designated unload area until you have officially checked in at our move-in tent.

Where do I go next?

After you have officially checked in with our Residential Life Staff, you will still need to unload your car within a 20-minute period, and then move your car to a designated long-term parking area (Hopkins or Pangea parking structures). You will need to purchase a visitors parking permit on weekdays. 

You may not park overnight or longterm in parking lot P302 or P304- your car may be towed.
