Returning to UC San Diego After An Absence

If you have not been enrolled in classes at UC San Diego for two full quarters, you must submit an online request to return to UC San Diego.  Please see below for additional paperwork and deadlines specific to your circumstances.

Readmission Quarter  Application Deadline

Deadlines are strictly enforced by the colleges; no exceptions will be made.

*Please note that Tuberculosis (TB) screening is a university admission requirement for all newly readmitted students. Visit the Student Health Services website for detailed instructions to clear the requirement so that you can avoid a hold on your record and enroll in classes in a timely manner.

You voluntarily left UC San Diego in good academic standing

  1. Complete the Request to Return on TritonLink no later than the end of the application filing period.
  2. If you left the University in good academic standing, a review by the Academic Advising office is not required.
  3. Check the Virtual Advising Center and the e-mail account you listed on your online request for any information and/or updates from Academic Advising.
  4. Enroll in your courses and pay your registration fees before the payment deadline.

You left UC San Diego with a hold placed by the Dean of Student Affairs

  • Contact TMC Student Affairs at (858) 534-4390 to inquire about any conditions that must be fulfilled to have the hold lifted.
  • Complete the Request to Return form on TritonLink no later than the end of the application filing period.
  • Enroll in your courses and pay your registration fees before the payment deadline.

You voluntarily left UC San Diego on Academic Probation or Subject to Disqualification

  1. Complete the Request to Return form on TritonLink no later than the end of the application filing period.
  2. The Registrar's Office will notify Marshall Advising once your request has been received. 
  3. Check the Virtual Advising Center for any requests for information and/or updates from Academic Advising.
  4. Once your Request to Return form has been approved by Academic Advising, read your Academic Directive on the "Academic Notice" tab on the Virtual Advising Center 
  5. Clear any other holds and update your contact information on TritonLink.
  6. Enroll in your courses and pay your registration fees before the payment deadline.

You were dismissed from UC San Diego for failing to meet the Entry Level Writing Requirement

  1. Consult with the Analytical Writing Program (awp@ucsd.edu) regarding steps to complete the Re-enrollment Challenge Portfolio
  2. Complete the Request to Return form on TritonLink no later than the end of the application filing period.
  3. The Registrar's Office will forward your request form to Academic Advising for review.
  4. Check the Virtual Advising Center for any requests for information and/or updates from Academic Advising.
  5. Follow the appeals process outlined in the next section if you were also dismissed for academic performance.
  6. Clear any holds and update your contact information on TritonLink.
  7. Enroll in your courses and pay your registration fees before the payment deadline.

You were academically disqualified from UC San Diego

Note: Disqualified students are eligible to request to Return to UC San Diego after taking one academic year away from UC San Diego. Students who are returning to UC San Diego after disqualification may only do so once per year for Fall Quarter only.

  1. Review the Returning to UC San Diego after Disqualification information from the UC San Diego website.
  2. Submit the Return to UC San Diego After Disqualification Proposal form and all required documents to Academic Advising between April 1 and July 15 for Fall Quarter readmission.
  3. Check the Virtual Advising Center for any requests for information and/or updates from Academic Advising.
  4. Your proposal will be approved by the College, as long as you:
    • Clear any financial, academic, and/or disciplinary holds.
    • Complete the University’s Request to Return form on TritonLink for Fall Quarter.
    • Read your Academic Notice on the "Academic Notice" tab on the Virtual Advising Center.
    • Enroll in your courses and pay your registration fees before the payment deadline.
    • Send all official transcripts to the UC San Diego Admissions Office for official posting to your Academic History on TritonLink if you have attended another college or university since your academic disqualification.
