First-Year Orientation

Welcome to the Thurgood Marshall College family and UC San Diego community!

Your journey to Thurgood Marshall College at UC San Diego begins when you accept your offer and receive your Enrollment Checklist. Be sure to activate your UC San Diego student email account early to stay connected and informed.

Thurgood Marshall College Orientation consists of three components:

Step 1 | COMPLETE: New Triton Advising Portal

The NewTriton Advising Portal is housed in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC). New Triton Advising must be completed by Thursday, June 15, 2023.

You will be able to complete the following in the VAC:

Submit your academic background, including Advanced Placement (AP) scores, International Baccalaureate (IB) scores, placement test information, and/or transfer coursework
Connect directly with advising staff to ask enrollment-related questions through Online Advising, which opens early August.

Step 2 | REGISTER for Marshall College First-Year Orientation

First-Year College Orientation is a mandatory program that provides incoming students an overview of resources, involvement opportunities, and additional information to support your transition to college life. You must register for your College Orientation sessions by Friday, July 28, 2023.

Registration for Orientation opens mid-May on the Colleges Orientation Registration ("COR") Website. Spaces per session are limited.

Step 3 | PARTICIPATE in Marshall College First-Year Orientation

Your First-Year Orientation experience is led by an Orientation Leader (OL), who is a current UC San Diego student. During Orientation you will learn about Thurgood Marshall College's rich history, values, and traditions and deepen your understanding of academic support and campus resources, as well as explore co-curricular opportunities.

Participation is required for all parts of orientation. Thurgood Marshall College Orientation has a synchronous in-person Orientation program and asynchronous CANVAS modules.

Synchronous Thurgood Marshall College Orientation has a 1-day Orientation program, in which you will connect with your Orientation Leader and fellow incoming students.

In-Person - Marshall College UCSD

Students must select one of the following three Sessions. The dates and times (Pacific Standard Time) are listed below.

In-person Sessions:

Session 1: Wednesday, September 20*
Session 2: Thursday, September 21
Session 3: Friday, September 22

*This session is designed for commuter students, but all are welcome.

Asynchronous: In addition to attending the synchronous session, incoming students are required to complete a series of assignments on Canvas. Canvas is UC San Diego's Learning Management System. Canvas will open on August 21, 2023.

From May through September, you will receive emails with important information and approaching deadlines. Be sure to check your UC San Diego email account regularly. Follow the timeline below for important dates and deadlines. *Dates subject to change. Please check back regularly for updates.*

Important Dates and Deadlines
When	What
Do it NOW	Accept your Offer of Admission with the UC San Diego Admissions Office. Review the Math Placement and UC Entry Level Writing Requirement information. Depending on your choice of major, you may need to review the Chemistry Placement and the Language Placement websites. You need to complete these requirements as soon as possible and before course enrollment begins. Activate your UC San Diego email account by visiting http://acms.ucsd.edu. All official University correspondence, including your course enrollment, will be sent to your UC San Diego email ONLY. UC San Diego email is the University's official method of communication. Review the Hepatitis B Hold and provide UC San Diego with proof of immunization as soon as possible. Submit your application for on-campus housing.
May 15	Go to the Campus Card Office website for information on how to submit your ID card photo online. The New Triton Advising site opens! Here you will need to input your Academic Information before the June 15 deadline. The College Orientation Registration site opens! Register for Orientation before the July 28 deadline. After this date, a $25 late fee may be assessed.
May - Early July	Request your official high school transcript, any college transcripts, and any AP/IB scores are sent to the UC San Diego Admissions office. Verify that your junior year (or prior) AP/IB scores are sent.
June 15	Deadline to complete your Academic Information on the New Triton Advising site.
July 1	Postmark deadline to submit your official transcript to UC San Diego Admissions at: Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools UC San Diego Student Affairs 9500 Gilman Dr., 0021 La Jolla, CA 92093-0021 Transcripts will post to your Academic History on TritonLink by the end of August.
July 10	Deadline to submit immunization records to Student Health Services.
July 28	Deadline to register for Orientation on the College Orientation Registration site without a $25 late fee.
July 31 August 1	Login into Tritonlink to find your enrollment appointment time. Deadline to submit your ID card photo online to the Campus Card Office.
August 7	Mandatory Online Asynchronous CANVAS Marshall College First-Year Student Orientation Modules available.
August 10	Online Advising begins on the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) in the "Ask a Question" tab!
August 29	First-Year Enrollment Period begins Enrollment appointments are randomly assigned It is imperative that you enroll during your appointment time; otherwise, you may not be able to secure seats in classes. Please note that you cannot change your enrollment appointment time. No exceptions can be made.
September 6	Enrollment open to all Students (New and Continuing)
September 20-22	Mandatory Synchronous Marshall College First-Year Student Orientation Sessions begin. Synchronous in person at Marshall College, UCSD
September 22	Triton Weeks of Welcome (TWOW) Programming and Marshall Welcome Week Programming begins.
September 28	Classes Begin!

International Students

If you are a new incoming International Student, some additional programs may be required. Please visit the International Students & Programs Office’s website for more information.

Have Your Plans Changed?

If you choose to decline your acceptance to UC San Diego, you must notify UC San Diego Admissions. Contact them by email at SIRDecline@ad.ucsd.edu or by phone at (858) 534-4831.

If you do not formally decline your acceptance, you will receive a bill for New Student Orientation. If you decline your acceptance after attending Fall Orientation, you will still be billed and are responsible for the fees owed.
